–  Tabula Smaragdina

Hermes Trismegistus appears in Egyptian sources at the end of the second century BC The Corpus Hermeticum was written the following century, and consists of a collection of eighteen books, with a Latin translation of one of these, entitled Asclepius. Some time ago and was found a tense demotic, written in popular language, the so-called Book of Thoth of the first century BC and stored in the second century BC papyrus He speaks of a dialogue between Thoth and Osiris with a student, in which Toth talks about things that concern the Underworld, the ethics, the sacred geography of Egypt.

The treaty focuses heavily on the Underworld, while the hermetic leading to immortality directs upward to the sky. Here there are many concordances the greek obscurity, the reference to a party Imhotep directly involves Asclepius. In these writings also it appears the figure deified Imhotep. Using a discovery of the base of a statue of King Djoser (2650 B.C.) with the title and the name of Imhotep is attested historical personage. A prtire the XXVI Dynasty, is considered a god, being equated to the God of salvation to greek Asclepius.

The center of his cult is Menfi, is reasonably probable site of his burial in the necropolis of Saqqara. Another center of Imhotep stood in the temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, who later became a pilgrimage destination. His cult spread to Nubia, in the so called “Famine Stele” of the Ptolemaic era in the island of Sehel Nile, near Aswan where the King Djoser because of a famine is aimed at Imhotep, which is part of ” priesthood of Ibis “and in the” house of life “of Ermopoli takes information on the cause of the famine, to communicate after a Djoser.

In 46 BC, under Cleopatra, Imhotep gives to the high priest of Memphis Pascherienptah and his wife Taimhotep the much-desired son, who was given the name of God. greek horoscope of 138 A.D., Hermes and a “Asclepius, which is Imuthes nominatil’uno are next to each other, a “Asclepius Imuthes” is also mentioned in Kosmou Kore (the maiden of the cosmos).

The image of Imhotep, as a scribe seated with a papyrus scroll in his lap, also influenced the representation of Hermes Trismegistus. The treatises of the Corpus Hermeticum are presented in the form of direct proclamation of Hermes, in dialogue form of Trismegistus and his son Tat (Thoth), or with Asclepius. Also cosmo-critical issues are developed to Platonism and positioning itself in Gnostic doctrines: in the corpus of Nag Hammadi has found a writing of Asclepius.

However it is clear to the Egyptian provenance for the apocalyptic nature dell’Asclepius on the future, it is part of the ancient Egyptian tradition as the prophecies of Nefertiti, arriving until the Ptolemaic era. According to the Kore Kosmou, the gods have impressed in Egyptian priests three arts: the philosophy and magic for the soul, the art of medicine for the body. What remains is given by the gnosis of salvation: the demiurge Nous created the primeval man, also working him as creator, but attaversando the planetary areas comes down to earth, restrained by matter. Only he who knows himself can break free from these chains.

The obscurity is like a religion without a temple and without religion, but uses the existing Egyptian times. As Hermes Trismegistus was not considered a god, but a man, even the Christian scribes recognized him and used his doctrines. The Tabula Smaragdina, also called Kybalion, which seems to have been found in the tomb of Hermes Trismegistus under a statue of Hermes, is now regarded as the work of an Arab alchemist of the eighth or ninth century.

“What is below is like what is above and what is above is like that which is below to do the miracles of one thing. And as all things have been and arose from one by the mediation of a , so all things are born from this one thing by adaptation.
The Sun is its father, the moon its mother, the wind carried it in its belly, the earth is its nurse. The father of all, the end of the world is here.
Its force or power is entire if it be converted into earth. Shalt separate the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross sweetly with great industry. It ascends from earth to heaven and descends again to earth and receives the force of things superior and inferior. By this I mean you will have the glory of the world and through this darkness will flee from you. Its force is above all force it vanquishes every subtle thing and penetrates every solid thing. Thus the world was created. From this are and do come admirable adaptations, whose method is here.
That is why it is called Hermes Trismegistus, having the three parts of the philosophy of the whole world. Complete is what I said the operation of the sun. “- Tabula Smaragdina
